Have you ever noticed a sudden, unexplained drop in your home’s water pressure: especially of late in Kalamunda or Mundaring home?

As one example, perhaps it’s taking a little longer than usual to full the tub or the kitchen sink. You might have shrugged it off, planning to get it looked at some point. But that’s not a very good idea as low water pressure can be a symptom of a bigger and more complex problem.

In fact, whether you’re experiencing reduced water pressure throughout your entire home, or from a particular tap, it’s worth having the issue explored by a local plumbing professional.

There are also ways to conduct a little private investigation of your own, including the following:

Aerators

If the water flows slower than usual from your kitchen or bath tap, but other fixtures are performing well, you might have a clogged aerator. Over time, sand, rust, scale and other deposits can build up and restrict water flow. Simply remove the aerator and clean it with a commercial descaling agent.

Supply valves

If the aerator is clean, check the supply valve under your sink to make sure it’s in the open position. Even a slightly closed supply valve can greatly reduce water flow.

Leaks

Another fairly common cause of low water flow are leaks. Some might be obvious, like that pesky drip from your bathroom tap. Others might not be easily detected, like one resulting from a hairpin-sized hole in your water pipe. Either way, leaks need immediate attention as they not only waste water, but could result in structural damage to your home.

Water filter

If you have a whole-house water softener installed and are experiencing low water pressure from every tap, you might need to have your water filter serviced.  In the meantime, try putting your filter in the “bypass” mode.  If the water pressure returns to normal, then the problem is with the water filter unit.

Main water supply valve

Similar to a localized supply valve, if you home’s main water supply valve is not wide open, water will not flow through the pipes at the rate it should. While you’re there, check for any corrosion as that also could be restricting the flow.

If your home detective work comes up empty, or you think you’ve located the source of the problem but need professional assistance to make matters right again, contact Kalamunda Plumbing for prompt, professional, and reliable service.  After all, we know plumbing, inside and out.
