How to Unblock a Drain

Is there a foul smell lingering, or water puddling around your feet in the shower? Maybe water takes longer to drain in the sink. That usually means that you have a clogged drain. When this happens, the best thing to go is to get it fixed. If you’ve tried all that you can but the problem persists, and you’ve exhausted all your options around the house, there are still a few tricks that you might not have tried yet.

  1. Baking Soda and Vinegar

A mixture of about ⅓ of baking soda in a cup with ⅓ of vinegar in a measuring cup fizzes up immediately. A solution of baking soda and vinegar could have a reaction powerful enough to dissolve the blockage in the drain. Without wasting any time, pour the mix down the drain. This fizzing action for the mixture will break up the blockage in the pipe of your drain. Leave it for an hour, or overnight for better results and the flush down with hot water.

  1. The Wet and Dry Vacuum

A wet and dry vacuum is another great way to unclog blocked drains. Make sure that your vacuum is set on liquids and with the vent covered to avoid a mess. Then, making a tight seal over the drain, turn the vacuum onto its highest setting. The sucking action should be able to pull out the clog into the vacuum bag. You might have to empty the bag depending on how big the blockage is, but this method has proven useful to many people.

  1. The Drain Snake

This low-tech equipment is exceptional for unblocking drains. A drain snake is a flexible metal rope with a piece of coiled up metal on the end. By inserting it into the drain, it will target any clog and release build-up in the drain.

  1. Call The Professionals
